BYD Qin Plus EV

The BYD Qin Plus EV is the second generation of the Chinese BYD Qin D-class sedan, which was presented in 2020 at the Guangjong Auto Show. Its sales in China started in 2021 and in the first year more than 10 thousand electric vehicles were sold.

Options

BYD Qin Plus EV is available in four trim levels, designated by numbers indicating the mileage without the need to recharge the battery:

• 400 – the basic version, it has the least powerful electric motor and the least capacious battery;
• 500 – under this index two configurations are produced, which from a technical point of view are no different from each other. The only difference is the quality of the interior equipment. Yes, in the highest configuration, adaptive cruise control is installed instead of the usual one, and a all-round viewing system (360 degrees) is installed instead of a rear view camera. In higher configurations, active braking and blind spot monitoring systems and automatic switching from high to low beam appear. Multi-color (30 colors) lighting appears in the interior;
• 600 is the top-end configuration, which has the most powerful electric motor and the most capacious battery. In addition, this configuration includes electrical adjustment for the front passenger seat. There are no other differences in interior equipment between trim levels 500 and 600.

Appearance

The main difference between the electric car and the regular BYD Qin is its lack of a radiator grille. Instead, a solid matte metal bumper is installed, which is why the car looks somewhat unusual at first glance.

The exterior of the BYD Qin Plus EV sedan is made in the signature Dragon Face style and therefore the main optics of the electric car look like the predatory squint of dragon eyes. This similarity is emphasized by the daytime front and rear running lights. They are made in the form of world stripes, symbolizing the marks of the dragon's claws. The side lights are also made in this style, only their color scheme is orange and black. Light dimensions are placed on decorative nameplates. In the top two trim levels, car optics have a function of switching from high beam to low beam.

All side windows are removed from the door by a chrome metal headquarters. Behind the electric vehicle, a red light strip is laid through the trunk door, connecting the right and left brake lights. This red bar improves compliance. a safe distance from a car that is driving behind, at night and in bad weather conditions. Compared to the first generation BYD Qin, the rear optics have become more concise and strict. The rear fog lamp is located on the right side of the bumper, and the reversing lamp is installed on the right.

The trunk of the sedan is wide, with high-quality upholstery. The sides of the trunk are lined with pile, and the bottom is covered with a rubber mat. Below this is the trunk compartment where charging cables, warning triangles and wheel repair accessories are stored.

Interior

The interior is upholstered in eco-leather and thread expired. Shades of eco-leather and threads often create quite unusual color combinations. With light-colored interior upholstery, all areas that can be touched by the driver or passengers are covered with dark inserts, on which dirt is not noticeable.

Some interior elements are made of glossy plastic. This is primarily the front panel and the central tunnel between the front seats. The dashboard is completely digital and very small, no larger than a smartphone screen. However, this is compensated for by the touch screen of the multimedia system. Its diagonal is 12.8 inches. The screen can be turned towards the driver and display all relevant information (speed, range, etc.). Image quality, color richness - all this will help the driver read important information without being distracted from the road.

The multimedia system allows you to use GPS navigation, configure the climate control, set the colors of the interior lighting, activate proprietary functions, including even a karaoke application.

The rear door glass is covered with factory tinting. The front door has double glass for better sound insulation of the interior. In the back row, due to the low roof, it will be uncomfortable for people taller than 180 cm to sit. Also, tall people will have cramped legs, their knees will rest against the backs of the front row seats.

Main technical characteristics

Dimensions and weight of the electric vehicle:

• length – 4.675 meters;
• width – 1.837 meters;
• height – 1.515 meters;
• wheelbase length – 2.718 meters;
• curb weight – 1.82 tons.

MacPherson strut suspension and ventilated disc brakes are installed on the front axle, and a multi-weight suspension and conventional disc brakes are installed on the rear axle. In addition to the top version, the electric car is equipped with alloy wheels with tire size 215/55 R17. The top version is fitted with 235/45 R18 tires.

Engine and battery

In addition to the top version, the BYD Qin Plus EV electric sedan is equipped with a 100 kW electric motor. The top version has a 135 kW electric motor. It accelerates the car to 100 km/h. in 9 seconds. For all electric motors, the maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h. In all trim levels, the electric sedan is front-wheel drive, the electric motor is always installed above the front axle.

Electric vehicles are equipped with rechargeable batteries:

• capacity 47.5 kWh. Installed only on the basic version. Range without recharging the battery – 400 km;
• capacity 57 kW*h. Installed in two medium configurations. Range without recharging the battery – 500 km;
• capacity 71.7 kW*h. Installed on the top version. The driving distance without recharging the battery is 600 km.

To fully charge the battery from a household network, it will take from 8 to 10 hours, depending on the battery capacity. With direct current at fast charging stations, batteries are charged according to the standard “30-40 minutes - 80% of battery capacity,” which is the optimal mode for traveling on city streets.

Security level

Already from the basic version of BYD Qin Plus EV is equipped with:

• a video recorder built into the back wall of the interior mirror;
• front and rear parking sensors;
• rear view camera;
• anti-lock braking system (ABS);
• brake force distribution (EBD);
• traction control system (TCS);
• stabilization system (ESP);
• Brake Assist;
• active braking system;
• blind spot monitoring system;
• assistance when ascending and descending.

In the two top versions, the rear view camera turns into an all-round viewing system, in which video cameras are also mounted in the front bumper and side mirrors.

Comfort level

Already the basic version of BYD Qin Plus EV is equipped with:

• Bluetooth module;
• USB ports installed on the first and second row of seats;
• electrically adjustable driver's seat;
• multifunction steering wheel;
• electric sunroof;
• electrical adjustment of mirrors, their automatic storage and heating.

Output

BYD Qin Plus EV is a first-time electric car. If you want to understand how to own an electric car, then this is the sedan you should buy. Its hardware includes everything you'll find in other electric vehicles. This concerns technical characteristics, level of safety and comfort. But at the same time, the cost of purchasing this particular model will be lower even than its Chinese counterparts.
