The electric Volkswagen ID.6 was presented at the Shanghai International Auto Show in 2021. At first it was planned to be supplied only to the Chinese market, but subsequently the electric car began to be exported to other countries.
The electric car is positioned as an alternative to full-size family crossovers. With an extensive network of electric gas stations, you can comfortably travel with the whole family, for example, to the sea.
Options
The Volkswagen ID.6 is supplied to the Chinese market in 5 trim levels costing from 239 to 335 thousand yuan. The electric car is supplied to the Ukrainian market in five trim levels:
- Pure – basic version;
- Pure+ – the capacity of the battery and electric motor is increased according to the basic version;
- Lite Pro – the interior is equipped with genuine leather seats and three-zone climate control;
- Pro – top version with rear-wheel drive;
- Prime – top version with all-wheel drive.
Appearance
The body of the electric car is made in a design characteristic of the ID series:
- the bumper is decorated with a decorative grille and a trapezoidal chrome headplate, which gives the crossover a feeling of power and even some roughness;
- closed front panel and corporate logo are illuminated by LED lights;
- The rear bumper and tailgate are massive, but at the same time their appearance retains a sense of dynamism.
LED optics operate in 10 modes of lighting the road and the electric vehicle itself. All lights turn on in a few milliseconds.
Interior
The interior of the Volkswagen ID.6 is very spacious. Even great people will feel free on the back sofa. If necessary, you can raise the third row of seats, but only children and teenagers can sit comfortably in them.
Depending on the configuration, the interior is upholstered in fabric and eco-leather or only eco-leather. All upholstery materials are of very good quality, pleasant to the touch.
The front and rear row seats are wide, comfortable, with good leg support. Top trim levels are equipped with heating, pneumatic massage, a headrest with air suspension and memory for the front seats, as well as heated rear seats. The two rear row seats are separated from each other by a central platform, which, if necessary, folds inside the seats.
In all trim levels, the cabin is equipped with air conditioning with an air filter that captures particles with a diameter of up to 2.5 microns, and with a negative ion generator.
In top trim levels, you can order a panoramic sliding electric sunroof on the roof of the electric vehicle. The trunk volume with the second row of seats raised is 202 liters. If you fold the second row of seats, the trunk volume increases to 1800 liters.
The electric car is equipped with a multimedia system with a 12.5-inch screen. You can control its operation in two ways - icons on the touch screen and buttons on the plastic display frame. Multimedia supports:
- GPS navigation;
- car phone function;
- voice recognition;
- branded functions from the Volkswagen concern, etc.
In addition to the dashboard, there is a projection HUB screen with elements of augmented reality. In top trim levels, this screen displays 5 types of key information for the driver about the car and the driving process. Also in top trim levels, the electric car is equipped with 12 Harman Kardon speakers with wide surround sound, synchronized with dynamic interior lighting.
The bag is covered with artificial leather. Instead of traditional function keys, the steering wheel has touch-sensitive areas. In all trim levels, the steering wheel is adjustable in four positions and is heated.
Main technical characteristics
Volkswagen ID.6 is built on the German automaker’s proprietary MEB platform and is similar in size and silhouette to the Volkswagen Touareg. In comparison with its “younger brother” ID.4, the “six” has a wheelbase increased by 300 mm to 2.77 meters, which made it possible to place a third row of seats in the cabin.
Volkswagen ID.6 weight and dimensions:
- length – 4.89 meters;
- width – 1.82 meters;
- height – 1.68 meters;
- wheelbase length – 2.77 meters;
- weight – 2395 kg.
MacPherson strut suspension and ventilated disc brakes are installed on the front wheels, and multi-link independent suspension and drum brakes are installed on the rear wheels. The basic equipment is equipped with alloy wheels measuring 235/55 R19, the middle equipment is equipped with wheels measuring 235/50 R20, and the two top models are equipped with 235/45 R21.
Engine and battery
Depending on the configuration, the Volkswagen ID.6 is equipped with three electric motors:
- with a power of 132 kW - installed only on the basic version of the family crossover;
- with a power of 150 kW - installed on the middle configuration;
- with a power of 230 kW - installed on two top trim levels.
For all electric motors, the maximum speed is forcibly limited to 160 km/h. But due to the different torque of the engines, the electric car accelerates differently in different configurations. The highest torque of the top-end 230-kilowatt engine is 472 Nm. The other two electric motors have a torque of 310 Nm.
With a 132 kW electric motor, the Volkswagen ID.6 accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, with a 150 kW engine in 9.3 seconds. With a 230 kW engine - in 6.6 seconds.
The basic version of the electric crossover is equipped with batteries with a capacity of 63.2 kWh. This capacity is enough to travel 436 km without having to charge the battery. In all other trim levels, electric vehicles are equipped with rechargeable batteries with a capacity of 83.4 kWh. With a 150-kilowatt electric motor, the Volkswagen ID.6 will travel 588 km on a single battery charge. In top trim levels, due to a more powerful electric motor, the electric crossover will travel only 510 km without charging the battery.
An intelligent electrical charge distribution system maintains maximum electric motor power at low battery charge levels. It will take 9.5 hours to charge the battery from a household power supply; a battery with a capacity of 63.2 kWh will take 9.5 hours, and a battery with a capacity of 83.4 kWh will take 12.5 hours. DC fast charging occurs in 30 minutes to 80% of the battery's maximum charge.
In all trim levels, the electric vehicle is equipped with an automatic single-stage transmission that directs torque to the rear axle or all-wheel drive.
Safety
In terms of safety, the Volkswagen ID.6 received 5 stars according to NCAP tests for. In all trim levels, the electric car has a full package of electronic safety systems - ABS, EBD, TCS, Brake Assist, etc. Top trim levels also add a blind spot monitoring system. Also on all trim levels the Endow L2+ active driving assistance function is installed. This feature integrated all electronic active safety devices.
The cabin has two front and two side airbags for the driver and front passenger.
