Description
The Volkswagen ID4 X electric crossover has the following weight and size characteristics:
- Length – 4.6 m;
- Width – 1.85 m;
- Height – 1.64 m;
- Wheelbase length – 2.76 m.
The front axle is equipped with a MacPherson suspension (“pumping candle”), and the rear axle is equipped with an independent multi-link.
Design and interior
The design of the Volkswagen ID4 X electric crossover can be described in one word - “swiftness”. The streamlined features of the silhouette are not only a tribute to fashion trends, but, above all, concern for increasing the power reserve on a single battery charge. The less air resistance, the less electricity the electric motor consumes to maintain a given speed. Thus, the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the German crossover is only 0.28. This is one of the best aerodynamic drag indicators among sports crossovers.
In the basic configuration, the electric car is equipped with LED front and rear headlights; in the top configuration, matrix LED lights are installed on the car. Depending on the configuration, the electric car is equipped with wheels with a diameter of 18 to 21 inches.
Of the interior features, one can note the low-mounted air duct, behind which there is a radiator and interior air conditioning elements.
But the high aerodynamic properties of the crossover did not in any way worsen the ride comfort for either the driver or passengers. Rear passengers have plenty of room to stretch out their legs. Moreover, the interior space of the crossover was enough for a spacious trunk.
As standard, the crossover is equipped with a multimedia system with a 10-inch screen and a dashboard with a 5.3-inch display. In the top-end configuration, the multimedia system has a screen diagonal increased to 12 inches; in addition, it now has an augmented reality function. Below the windshield there is a light strip that provides visual cues about the state of charge and warnings when braking.
Batteries: charging time and range
The Volkswagen ID4 X crossover is equipped with two batteries with a capacity of 52 (Pure version) and 77 kW (Pro version), respectively. The first battery provides a range in extra-urban mode of 346 km, the second – 522 km. The battery consists of 10 (Pure version) and 12 (Pro version) compartments.
The battery in the Pro version is charged by a third in 12 minutes, in 16 minutes the battery will restore 40% of the charge, in 20 minutes - 50% of the charge, in 40 minutes 80% of the charge will be replenished. The battery replenishes the charge up to 80% at an average power of 110 kW, which is a very good result. After 80% charge, the replenishment rate drops to 69 kW, and after 90% - to 41 kW.
Construction
The Volkswagen ID4 X electric crossover is built on the serial MEV platform, the name of which can be translated as “an electric car for everyone.” The platform was introduced in 2016 and in 5 years all “childhood diseases” were identified and eliminated. Now the MEV platform is adapted for electric motors of various powers. In particular, the Volkswagen ID4 X is equipped with 6 electric motors with a capacity of 146, 168, 173, 201, 262 and 302 hp, respectively.
Initially, the crossover was supplied only with rear-wheel drive with the electric motor located above the rear axle. But then an all-wheel drive version appeared, which already had two electric motors located above the front and rear axles.

Volkswagen ID4 X received 5 stars out of five from Euro NCAP:
- Safety level for driver and front passenger – 93%;
- Safety level for a child in a child seat is 89%;
- Safety level for pedestrians – 76%;
