Description
The Volkswagen E-Tharu electric car was originally developed for the Chinese market and assembled at a Chinese plant. In fact, it is a complete copy of the Volkswagen Tharu crossover.
Volkswagen E-Tharu has the following dimensional characteristics:
- Length – 4.45 m;
- Width – 1.84 m;
- Height – 1.63 m;
- Wheelbase length – 2.68 m.
McPherson strut suspension is installed on the front axle, and independent, multi-link suspension is installed on the rear axle. Ventilated disc brakes are installed on the front and rear axles. The electric car has light alloy wheels.
Design and interior
Externally, crossovers equipped with an electric motor and an internal combustion engine are practically no different. Small differences lie in the presence of E-Tharu nameplates on the electric motor, which are located around the entire perimeter of the housing. Also, instead of fog lights, LED running light brackets are installed. The electric car's fake exhaust pipes were also removed.
The interior of the electric crossover is also not much different from the interior of a crossover equipped with a gasoline engine.
The interior of the Volkswagen E-Tharu is equipped with:
- Air conditioning;
- Separate climate control for driver and passengers;
- Central locking with remote control;
- Adaptive cruise control;
- Multimedia system with digital instrument panel, GPS navigation and Bluetooth;
- Ventilated seats with heated front and rear rows;
- Armrests for the front and rear row seats;
- Multifunctional steering wheel with adjustable height and reach;
- Power windows for front and rear doors;
- Adjustment and heating of mirrors;
- Rain sensor.

Battery: range and charging time
The electric vehicle is equipped with a lithium battery with a capacity of 44.1 kW. In ideal conditions, the battery reserve lasts for 316 km. But the practical range will be less, since part of the electricity from the battery will be spent to ensure the operation of the car’s electronic systems. In winter, in severe frosts, the range can be only 100-120 km, since most of the battery's electricity will be spent on operating the stove.
In fast charging mode, a third of the battery capacity is replenished in 27 minutes, and 80% in 52 minutes. From a household electrical outlet, the battery will fully replenish its charge in 12 hours.
Construction
The Volkswagen E-Tharu is equipped with a synchronous 100-kilowatt electric motor (136 hp), creating a maximum torque of 290 Nm. The electric motor is capable of accelerating the crossover to 150 km/h. A single-speed automatic transmission is combined with the electric motor.
Safety
The Volkswagen E-Tharu electric car received the highest rating from Euro NCAP - five stars out of five.
The electric crossover is equipped with the following safety devices:
- Airbag for driver and front passenger;
- Side airbag for the front row of seats;
- Curtain airbags for the front and rear rows;
- Isofix child seat anchors;
- Child lock;
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS);
- Brake force distribution (EBD);
- Brake Assist;
- Traction control system (TCS);
- Stabilization system (ESP);
- Active braking system;
- Automatic hand brake;
- Lifting assistance system.
