Electric car Polestar 2
Production of the Polestar 2 electric car started in China in 2020. The electric car was developed jointly with Volvo. In particular, the Swedes provided their modular platform CMA (Compact Modular Architecture). On this modular platform, the batteries are located along the center tunnel and under the rear bench.
Polestar 5 is designed in the form of a 5-door fastback (a body with a sloping roof that goes into the trunk lid without any visible boundaries). Dimensional characteristics of the electric car:
- Length – 4.6 meters;
- Width – 1.8 meters;
- Height – 1.48 meters;
- The length of the wheelbase is 2.73 meters.
McPherson struts are installed on the front axle, and a multi-link spring suspension is installed on the rear axle. Disc brakes are installed on both axles (ventilated on the front axle). All optics are LED. Rear brake lights are adaptive. When braking sharply, they shine with greater intensity.
Options
Polestar 2 is available in three trim levels:
- Basic – one electric motor with a power of 224 hp. and with a maximum torque of 330 Nm. Rechargeable battery with a capacity of 64 kWh with a range of up to 440 km;
- Advanced - one electric motor with a power of 231 hp. and with a maximum torque of 330 Nm. Rechargeable battery with a capacity of 78 kWh with a power reserve of up to 540 km;
- Premium - with two electric motors on each axle (all-wheel drive) with a power of 408 hp. and with a maximum torque of 660 Nm. Rechargeable battery with a capacity of 78 kWh with a power reserve of up to 440 km.
The electric car in all trim levels is equipped with a rack and pinion steering mechanism with active electric power steering. For an additional fee, an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers can be installed on an electric vehicle.
Design and interior
The fastback body has one of the lowest aerodynamic drag coefficients. Also, to reduce the aerodynamic drag coefficient, a frameless windshield was installed on the electric car, which also improved the driver’s visibility. In general, the silhouette of Polestar 2 turned out to be swift, energetic and easily recognizable.
The interior of the electric car is spacious for both the driver and the front and rear row passengers. It will not be cramped for people of any configuration. Black ash and reclaimed wood, textiles and Nappa eco-leather were used in the interior design.
Since the Polestar 2 is designed as a fastback, the tailgate, thanks to a special hinge, opens into two halves. This door design provides free access to the entire space of a very voluminous trunk (404 liters). The trunk door itself can be opened in three ways:
- By activating the sensor under the trunk;
- Button. There are two of them - on the dashboard and on the tailgate itself;
- Via the Polestar Connect smartphone app.
Battery: range and charging time
The lithium-ion battery consists of 27 modules connected in series. Depending on the configuration, the battery capacity is 64 kWh (basic version) or 78 kWh (advanced or premium versions). The battery can be charged from a household electrical outlet (with alternating current) or at charging stations (with direct current). Included with the electric car you will receive a 7-meter cord for charging from a household power supply. The time to fully charge the battery from a household electrical outlet is 10 hours. At a fast charging station, 80% of the battery charge is replenished in about half an hour.
Safety
Polestar 2 is equipped with a full set of electronic passive and active safety devices. Additionally, the electric vehicle is equipped with:
- Forward radar unit;
- Video camera on the windshield;
- A pair of rear radar units.
These devices provide the driver with information about the road situation at night and in difficult weather conditions. In addition, this information is transmitted in parallel to the on-board computer, and if an emergency occurs, it is able to independently brake the car until it comes to a complete stop.
