Mazda CX30EV electric car
The Mazda CX30EV electric car was officially presented at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. Its production began in the same year. Initially it was intended only for the Chinese market, but in 2022 it began to be exported to Europe and the USA.
Dimensional characteristics of Mazda CX30EV:
- Length – 4.395 meters;
- Width – 1,795 meters;
- Height – 1.54 meters.
Design and interior
The electric version of the Mazda CX30EV is not a complete analogue of the Japanese crossover with a gasoline engine. The electric car turned out to be significantly taller, although it retained the radiator grille, but it became more expressive due to the protruding front “lip”. The electric car has wider wheel arches and running boards, roof rails and new rocker panels. The shape of the doors has been changed to make it easier for children and pregnant women to disembark.
Among the differences in the interior, one can note a new steering wheel with functionality adapted to the driving characteristics of an electric vehicle. Interior trim is available in three options:
- Combination of gray and black fabric (basic interior design);
- Gray fabric and white faux leather;
- Black fabric and gray faux leather.
The door handles and shelves are made from traditional cork material, the top of the door is finished i.e. “breathable material” that improves interior ventilation, including when the air conditioning is turned off. In the top-end configuration, premium eco-leather is used for interior trim, whose structure imitates vintage natural leather trim.
Construction
The Mazda CX30EV electric car is built on the SkyActiv-Vehicle architecture. It integrated control mechanisms for the electric motor, transmission, chassis and active and passive safety devices into a single system.
In particular, the SkyActiv-Vehicle architecture combines the operation of the engine, chassis and steering into a single system. As a result, overloads that occur during sudden braking or an aggressive driving style were smoothed out. The GVC mechanism optimizes tire performance by increasing their vertical load. In addition, this mechanism redistributes the resulting loads onto the front axle when accelerating the electric vehicle. This increases the quality of traction of the drive wheels with the road.
The proprietary e-GVC Plus recuperation technology with high efficiency converts braking energy into electrical energy, which replenishes the battery.

Electric car Mazda CX30EV is front-wheel drive. Its electric motor produces 141 hp. with a maximum torque of 264 Nm, together with a single-speed automatic transmission, mounted above the front axle.
Battery: range and charging time
The 61.1 kWh lithium-ion battery has the following characteristics:
- The range on one battery charge in JC08 mode is 281 km. (This is the so-called “Japanese mode” - the average speed of an electric vehicle is 24.4 km/h, the maximum is 81.6 km/h. In 20 minutes, the electric vehicle must travel 8.17 km);
- The range on one battery charge in WLTC mode is 256 km. (This is a worldwide unified standard, according to which an electric car travels 30 km in 23 minutes. In urban mode, the average speed is 56.5 or 76.6 km/h, in suburban mode the average speed is 97.4 or 131.3 km/h);
- Slow charging time from a household power outlet is 12 hours;
- Slow charging time with alternating current using a special charger is 5 hours;
- Fast charging time (up to 80% of full capacity) – 40 minutes.
Safety
Mazda СХ30EV received five stars out of five from Euro NCAP experts in terms of safety level. In addition to active and passive safety devices, the following can also be noted:
“Human-centric” arrangement of information panels for the driver. Information that requires constant monitoring is presented directly before his eyes. On the left, just above the dashboard, information about the status of the electric vehicle is provided. Finally, information for the comfort and convenience of the trip is displayed on the multimedia system screen;
The electric car in all trim levels is equipped with a monitor with an all-round view and parking sensors with the ability to detect danger in invisible areas;
Adaptive LED optics automatically turns on and off 20 LED units on the right and left headlights, providing the driver with an excellent view of the road at night and in difficult weather conditions;
Sound signals indicating a potentially dangerous situation. They are supplied by the front video camera, rear, left and right radars;
The body structure of the Mazda CX30EV effectively absorbs kinetic energy and dissipates it to the sides during a frontal collision;
When deployed, the front airbags instantly immobilize the driver and front passenger, minimizing the likelihood of injury.
