HONDA e:NP1 – an example of the Japanese future
The Honda e:NP1 electric crossover was first presented in 2021 at the Shanghai Auto Show. In 2022, its production was organized at the plant of Dongfeng, the Chinese partner of the Japanese automaker.
Options
The Honda e:NP1 electric crossover is available in 4 trim levels – two basic (420-JINJI and 420-JIANJI) and two top-end (510-ZHANJI and 510-LANJI). Top trim levels have a powerful electric motor and a more capacious battery. Therefore, an electric car in top trim levels will travel 510 km on one battery charge, and in basic trim levels – 420 km.
In addition to the technical characteristics, the configurations differ only in the interior equipment:
- in the top-end configuration, the electric car is equipped with a all-round visibility system (360 degrees) and an automatic parallel parking system;
- a rain sensor is installed in the 420-JINJI and 510-ZHANJI trim levels;
- in the lower basic configuration there is no electric adjustment of the driver's seat. It appears in the two middle trim levels, and in the top basic trim level, front passenger seat adjustment also appears;
- in the lower basic configuration there is no automatic switching of headlights from high to low beam. All other trim levels have this feature;
- in the lower basic configuration there is no active braking system and a blind spot monitoring system. In other configurations these systems are;
- also in the lower basic configuration there is no sunroof.
There are no other differences in the equipment of the electric vehicle in different trim levels.
Appearance
HONDA e:NP1 looks and is a truly typical urban crossover. No revolutionary innovations in appearance. Everything is subordinated to functionality and pragmatism. Many of the technical solutions embodied in this electric car were taken from the sports department of the Honda concern. Some of them can be seen on the exterior of the electric car. For example, the rear door opening handles are located on the perimeter and do not protrude above the surface of the door. This improved the aerodynamic properties of the body and reduced engine power consumption.
The electric car does not have a radiator grille. Instead there is a steel sheet with the Honda logo. Under this letter there are two connectors - for slow and fast charging. To access these connectors, you need to press the button next to them.
The LED front optics are made in the “dragon eyes” style characteristic of the Chinese market. The fog and daytime running lights are located very low, almost on the lower edge of the bumper.
The rear optics are installed in the middle of the trunk door. The right and left brake lights are connected to each other by an LED strip, which enhances night and fog safety. Additional brake lights are installed in the lower part of the bumper and in the rear wing located above the rear window.
Interior
In all trim levels, the interior is upholstered in high-quality eco-leather with perforations. Some elements of the door trim and front panel are made of plastic. Separately for the front and rear rows, hatches with electric drives are made in the roof. All areas that the driver or passengers can touch with their hands or feet are covered with dark linings on which dirt is not noticeable.
The main element of the interior is a 15.1-inch touch screen mounted vertically. That is, its side edges are larger than the top and bottom edges. The interface of the proprietary Honda Connect 3.0 system is displayed on the screen.
The driver's instrument panel is completely digital. It displays all the important information about the movement and condition of the electric vehicle (speed, remaining charge in the battery, how far you can drive on this charge, etc.). In addition, a remote facial recognition system is built into the dashboard. It not only identifies a person, but also recognizes when the driver is distracted from the road or is in an unnatural position.
Main technical characteristics
Weight and dimensions of the Honda e crossover: NP1:
- length – 4.38 meters;
- width – 1.79 meters;
- height – 1.56 meters;
- wheelbase length – 2.61 meters;
- curb weight – 1652 kg.
MacPherson suspension is installed on the front axle, and a torsion beam is installed on the rear axle, the rigidity of which can be adjusted. Ventilated brakes are installed on the front axle, and conventional disc brakes are installed on the rear axle.
Alloy wheels with tires size 215/60 R17 are installed on the basic configuration; in all other trim levels, alloy wheels with tires size 225/50 R18 are installed on the electric vehicle.
Engine and battery
The two basic configurations are equipped with an electric motor with a power of 134 kW and a battery with a capacity of 53.6 kWh. On this charge the electric car will be able to travel 420 km. The two higher trim levels are equipped with a 150 kW electric motor and a 68.8 kWh battery. On this charge, the electric car will be able to travel 510 km.
All permanent magnet motors produce a maximum torque of 310 Nm, and their top speed is forcibly limited to 150 km/h. In all trim levels, the Honda e:NP1 crossover is front-wheel drive. The electric motors are located above the front axle. They are paired with an automatic single-speed transmission.
From a household electrical outlet (slow charging), a battery with a capacity of 53.6 kWh is charged in 9 hours, and a battery with a capacity of 68.6 kWh is charged in 9.5 hours. At fast charging stations (DC), both batteries fill 80% capacity in about 40 minutes.
Comfort level
The interior of the Honda e:NP1 electric crossover is equipped in all trim levels:
- automatic air conditioning;
- central locking and remote lock opening;
- keyless start of the electric engine and keyless access to the interior.
In addition to the basic version, the electric car is equipped with adaptive cruise control. In the two highest trim levels, the trunk door has an electric drive and a Hand-Free trunk opening and closing function.
Security level
The Honda e:NP1 electric crossover in all trim levels is equipped with the following safety systems:
- front and rear parking sensors;
- tire pressure monitoring;
- anti-lock braking system (ABS);
- brake force distribution (EBD);
- Brake Assist;
- traction control system (TCS);
- lift assist system.
The crossover interior is equipped with passive safety features:
- front and side airbags;
- front and rear curtain airbags;
- Isofix anchorages for child safety seats.
