BYD Yuan Plus is the golden mean in the class of urban crossovers

BYD Yuan Plus is a subcompact crossover named after the Yuan dynasty of Chinese emperors. In 2019, a version with a battery capacity of 49.92 kWh was released on the Chinese market, and in 2020, a version with a battery capacity of 60.48 kWh was released.

Options

Since BYD Yuan Plus appeared on the Chinese market in two waves (with batteries of different capacities), this crossover comes in five trim levels at once:

• Luxury – basic version with 49.92 kW battery;
• Premium – top version with 49.92 kW battery;
• Honor – basic version with 60.48 kW battery;
• Flagship - intermediate version with a 60.48 kW battery;
• Flagship Plus – top version with 60.48 kW battery.

These configurations differ from each other in terms of technical equipment and interior equipment:

• in two higher trim levels (Flagship and Flagship Plus), the crossover is equipped with alloy wheels with low-profile tires 215/55 R18. On other trim levels, the crossover is equipped with alloy wheels with low-profile tires 215/60 R17;
• in the highest configuration - Flagship Plus - the tailgate is equipped with an electric drive and the function of automatically opening and closing Hands-free;
• in the lowest basic configuration - Luxury - a rear view camera is installed, in other trim levels the camera is replaced by a all-round viewing system (360 degrees);
• except for the lower basic Luxury configuration, the remaining trim levels have an active braking system;
• Flagship and Flagship Plus trim levels are equipped with a blind spot monitoring system;
• Flagship Plus has an automatic parallel parking system;
• in the Premium, Flagship and Flagship Plus trim levels there is a function of automatic switching from high beam to low beam, and multi-color decorative lighting is installed in the interior of the electric vehicle;
• Premium, Flagship and Flagship Plus trims have front and rear curtain airbags;
• in the Premium, Flagship and Flagship Plus trim levels, a panoramic electric sunroof is installed in the roof;
• In the Flagship Plus configuration, an electric drive appears in the front passenger seat that regulates its position.

Appearance

The exterior of BYD Yuan Plus is made in the corporate style of Dragon Face 3.0. For example, the headlights are made in the shape of the narrowed eyes of a dragon. The rear optics are crossed by a continuous stripe through the trunk door. The grilles located on the sides of the front bumper serve a purely decorative role. There are no sensors or sensors underneath. Instead of the radiator grille, there is a steel sheet with the logo of the Chinese manufacturer.

Interior

In the center of the front panel there is a large rotating 15.6-inch screen. It can be turned towards the driver or towards the front passenger. The driver's instrument panel is completely digital. The multifunction steering wheel allows you to control the main functions of the electric vehicle and the multimedia system. The steering wheel can be adjusted for height and reach.

The large panoramic sunroof increases the amount of natural light in the cabin. It opens and closes automatically using an electric drive. The interior is also equipped with color LED lighting. It can be connected to an audio system, and then the backlight colors will change to the rhythms of the music.

Engine and battery

In all trim levels, BYD Yuan Plus is equipped with a 150 kW electric motor, which is installed above the front axle (front-wheel drive). The engine produces a maximum torque of 310 Nm. It is enough to accelerate the crossover to 100 km/h. in 7.3 seconds. The engine is paired with a single-speed automatic transmission.

For the first two basic configurations, the electric crossover is equipped with a lithium battery with a capacity of 49.92 kWh. This charge is enough for the electric car to travel 430 km without recharging.

The three highest trim levels have a battery with a capacity of 60.48 kWh. This charge is enough for the electric car to travel 510 km without recharging.

All batteries at charging stations (fast charging) fill 80% of the capacity in approximately 30 minutes. From a household network, a battery with a capacity of 49.92 kWh. It will fully charge in 7 hours 10 minutes, and the battery has a capacity of 60.48 kWh. – in 8 hours 40 minutes.

The batteries are manufactured using proprietary Blade Buttery technology, which increases battery rigidity, service life and efficiency of power delivery to the engine. The batteries are tested for the possibility of a short circuit if the integrity of their housing is damaged during an accident. Tests have proven the batteries are completely safe.

Comfort level

In all trim levels, the BYD Yuan Plus interior is equipped with:

• automatic air conditioning;
• central locking and its remote control function;
• keyless access to the interior and keyless engine start.

The multimedia system supports all important functions for travel comfort and traffic safety. Thus, through the touch screen you can adjust the brightness of the headlights, turn on the auto-storage function in the side mirrors, control the operation of the air conditioner, etc. The multimedia system supports voice command recognition, intelligent voice reminders and other functions of the proprietary DiLink 4.0 (4G) system.

Security level

The BYD Yuan Plus electric crossover is equipped with the following electronic driver assistance systems:

BYD Yuan Plus occupies an intermediate link between German and Japanese electric vehicles. The Chinese crossover does not have as luxurious an interior as German electric vehicles. And it does not have such advanced technological solutions as Japanese electric vehicles. But in this case, this is the golden mean between comfort and technology.
