BYD Han EV – premium luxury sedan
BYD Han EV is the electric version of the Chinese automaker's flagship sedan. The start of its serial production is 2020.
Options
BYD Han EV is available in three trim levels:
- Lux – basic package;
- Majestic – intermediate;
- Flagship – top-end configuration.
The differences between these trim levels are as follows:
- In the “Flagman” configuration, separate climate control appears for rear passengers;
- in addition to the basic configuration, the electric sedan has a blind spot monitoring system and automatic parallel parking;
- in addition to the basic configuration, the interior is equipped with multi-color lighting;
- in addition to the basic configuration, the electric drives of the front seats also have a position memory function;
- in the top-end configuration, the steering wheel has electrical adjustment and a position memory function.
There are no other differences between the BYD Han EV trim levels.
Appearance
The exterior of BYD Han EV combines luxury and efficiency. The aerodynamic drag coefficient of the body is only 0.23. This significantly reduces the load on the electric motors and therefore consumes electrical energy more economically while driving. The side lines of the body, chrome trim along the contours of the windows and along the door sills emphasize the sporty character of the electric sedan.
The headlights are made in the signature Streamer design, created in the style of futuristic aesthetics. The headlights are connected to each other by a chrome-plated metal strip. It visually divides the front bumper into two parts - upper and lower. The electric car does not even have a traditional radiator grille as a decorative element. There is a black plastic air intake located under the front bumper. It cools the electric motor located above the front axle.
The taillights are also made in futuristic aesthetics. The right and left brake lights are connected to each other by a thin world strip, under which the name of the electric vehicle is written in silver letters. And most importantly, the taillights at night and fog outline the dimensions of the car very well.
All optics of BYD Han EV are LED. The electric car is equipped with a light sensor and daytime running lights, headlight height adjustment and automatic switching from high beam to low beam.
Interior
The interior of the BYD Han EV is very spacious for front and rear row passengers. It is upholstered in light nappa leather. On the front panel and on the side door panels there are inserts made of high-quality dark plastic. They will also be used to upholster the lower areas of the cabin.
The central panel has a large rotating touch screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches. The instrument panel is completely digital. All important information for the driver is displayed on it:
- speed;
- battery charge level;
- actual level of electric power consumption by the engine;
- distance in kilometers that the car can cover.
In addition, this information is partially duplicated on the head-up display. It displays the speed of the electric vehicle and indicators of some safety systems.
In all trim levels, a panoramic sunroof is installed in the roof of the sedan, which fills the interior with sunlight during the day. Separate climate control for the driver and front passenger maintains an optimal microclimate even in hot sunshine. A control panel is built into the armrest of the rear row, with which you can open and close the panoramic sunroof, change the position of the seats, and in the highest configuration of the Flagman, you can also use the panel to control the separate climate control for the rear row.
Main technical characteristics
Weight and dimensions characteristics of BYD Han EV:
- length – 4.98 meters;
- width – 1.91 meters;
- height – 1.495 meters;
- wheelbase length – 2.92 meters;
- maximum curb weight – 2170 kg.
The front axle is equipped with MacPherson strut suspension and ventilated disc brakes. The rear axle is equipped with a multi-link independent suspension and non-ventilated disc brakes. Braking performance is enhanced by Brembo brake calipers and Integrated Brake Boost (IPB). They reduce the braking distance, making it stable on wet or frozen roads.
In all trim levels, the electric sedan is equipped with alloy wheels with tires size 245/45 R19.
Engine and battery
In the Lux and Majestic trim levels, BYD Han EV is equipped with an electric motor with a power of 163 kW. It produces a maximum torque of 330 Nm. It is enough to accelerate the electric sedan to 100 km/h. in 7.9 seconds. These two trim levels feature a rear-wheel drive electric sedan.
In the Flagship configuration it is already all-wheel drive. Electric motors with a power of 363 kW are installed on each axle, creating a maximum torque of 680 Nm. It is enough to accelerate an electric car to a speed of 100 km/h. in 3.9 seconds.
In the all-wheel drive version, the operation of the single-speed automatic transmission is controlled by an electronic intelligent system. It distributes torque between the two axles depending on the driving characteristics of the electric vehicle and the road condition.
All electric motors are supplied with a battery with a capacity of 76.9 kW. This charge is enough for the front-wheel drive sedan to travel 605 km without recharging, and its all-wheel drive version – 550 km. At fast charging stations, the battery regains 80% charge in 25 minutes. The battery will be fully charged in 12.2 hours from a household electrical outlet.
For increased battery efficiency, a heat pump is connected to it. It optimizes the thermal conditions of the battery when delivering electricity to the engines and during charging.
Comfort level
BYD Han EV in all trim levels is equipped with:
- automatic air conditioning;
- separate climate control for driver and front passenger;
- central locking and remote control function;
- keyless engine start and keyless entry;
- adaptive cruise control.
The cabin is equipped with a premium audio system from the Danish company Dynaudio. It creates surround sound with 12 speakers and a subwoofer. You can connect decorative lighting to the audio system, and then the colors will change to the rhythm of the music.
Security level
BYD Han EV is equipped in all trim levels with the following electronic security systems:
- front and rear parking sensors;
- all-round visibility around the electric vehicle (360 degrees), for which HD cameras are responsible;
- tire pressure monitoring;
- traction control (TCS);
- anti-lock brakes (ABS);
- brake force distribution (EBD);
- Brake Assist;
- stabilization system (ESP);
- lifting assistance.
The BYD Han EV interior is equipped with the following passive safety systems:
- front airbags for driver and front passenger;
- front and rear side airbags;
- front and rear curtain airbags;
- knee pads;
- Isofix mount for child seats.
Conclusions
BYD Han EV is the flagship of the Chinese automaker. And as a flagship, this electric sedan offers the owner a high level of comfort and very powerful dynamic performance, especially in the all-wheel drive version.
Perhaps, some of the technical characteristics and level of comfort and luxury of the interior of the BYD Han EV come from their European counterparts from BMW and Audi, but the price of this sedan is slightly lower.
